About Sara

Sara has been a rider and horse/dog owner all her life, competing in eventing and affiliated show-jumping as a teenager and more lately in dressage. This lifelong love of horses and dogs led to a desire to specialise in their treatment after qualifying as a human physiotherapist, at a time when the profession of “animal physiotherapy” did not really exist.

Sara has specialised in the treatment of animals for 29 years, becoming a category A member of ACPAT at its inauguration in 1985, serving as a committee member and then as Chair from 2001 to 2004. She has a busy physiotherapy practice which, over the years, has led to a specialist interest in the field of problems arising from poor saddle fit, and to the purchase in 1993 of her Saddletech® system, a computerised pressure analysis system.

 

Sara has lectured all over the country on the issue of back problems relating to saddle fitting and has been called in as a consultant by people such as the Society of Master Saddlers, Household Cavalry, Kings Troop RHA, British 3DE Team, vets, physiotherapy colleagues and numerous saddle and pad manufacturers.

Sara specialises in the musculo-skeletal treatment of horses and dogs, using a full complement of manual techniques, electrotherapy, gait analysis/ re-education, functional and neurological rehabilitation exercises. She places special emphasis on the importance of the team approach to rehabilitation, working closely with the vets, farriers, saddlers, hydro therapists, trainers and the owners.

Sara feels that assessment and treatment of the animal as a “biomechanical whole” is essential to the overall success of physiotherapy treatment. Educating the owners to enable them to manage their animal’s problems on a daily basis is an integral part of the treatment regime.
